Defend your Clan. You may become friends with cats from other Clans, but your loyalty stays to your Clan, as one day you may face them in battle.
But with no Clans, what was there to defend? Where would they put their loyalty? The confusion couldn't have been greater between the StarClan cats of the past, for the Duke's reign was forever strong, and for the first time in generations, their power was unable to overcome it. The Darkness had already Tainted the land, and StarClan no longer held the power to save it.
A gathering of all four Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. A fight will not break out among Clans at this time.
The Gatherings. The most sacred Clan Tradition, and it would never be able to take place again. It required four distinctive Clans, and it was impossible to share news amongst a single one. But they were more than just the sharing of news. They were a time of peace and of tranquility, for the fighting between the Clans to cease and, for a single night, they could live in harmony.
The Clan's leader is the Warrior Code.
To be a leader was a great honor, and it was tradition that their word was law in the Clan. But with so many past leaders, everyone would fight past death to rule even the rulers. No matter where you are in the world, no matter what part of the sky you are embodied in, there will always, always be someone who wants power.
But, perhaps not too late for them.

The Warrior Code could not live on without four Clans, and so StarClan split themselves into the four Clans of StormClan, GustClan, RainClan, and HiddenClan; a determined yet foolish attempt to restore The Code they treasured for thousands of years so dearly. Despite having passed on, cats of their former allegiances were placed into their respective Clan, although not all decided to go back. With Duke Sithis reigning supreme over all, the four Clans can only sit and watch, and try to restore what little honor they have left, by using their dear Warrior Code.
